Instructions
  1. Add the baking powder, 450g of plain flour, butter, 1tsp of salt and egg yolk to a mixing bowl. Blend thoroughly until the mixture creates crumbs.
  2. Add the water until the pastry resembles a ball and wrap in clingfilm. Keep refrigerated for an hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180C.
  4. Roll the pastry out to the desired thickness. Using a bowl, cut out 6 circular shapes of pastry.
  5. Using black pepper and salt, season the vegetables.
  6. Combine the beef with 1 tsp of plain flour, salt and pepper.
  7. Put potatoes, onions, beef and swede on half of the circle. Ensure a gap is left around the edge.
  8. Make dots of butter to the edge of the pastry and then brush with the beaten egg.
  9. Fold the other half of the pastry over the half containing the mixture. Seal firmly.
  10. Hold down the edges to create a D shaped pastry.
  11. Lightly coat the pasty with a beaten egg and make a hole in the centre of the pastry.
  12. Cook for 50 minutes until cooked thoroughly and the pastry is crispy.
